Presentation Abstract
Medical Informatics is the blend of clinical medicine and technology. Whether you are strictly IT or strictly clinical, health information technology offers many new career opportunities. As an example, healthcare leaders are pushing for electronic medical records and electronic prescribing as a way to improve patient safety and improve productivity. In many regards, healthcare is the last major industry to digitize, automate and mine data. Dr. Hoyt will address the clinical significance of Medical Informatics and Dr. Sutton will discuss several University of West Florida courses that involve health information technology. In addition, she will discuss recently funded WIRED grants and other UWF health IT initiatives in Northwest Florida.
